Bat Removal and Exclusion

Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey is home to 10 different species of bats. Three of these species are known to roost primarily or more often in buildings or attics. Whereas the other 7 may be more likely to roost in caves trees and not as commonly, but buildings as well. If you are a victim of bat infestation, give us a call and we can remove the bats and properly perform a highly permanent and professional exclusion (Guaranteed or we keep coming back). Here’s how it works. Bat removal is an extensive process. There is a general 6 step process to removing the bats.

Step 1

Step one is to determine the main exit and entry points of the bats. We will conduct what we call a watch. A technician will be sent to your property at sunset and since the bats are nocturnal they will come out to feed at sunset. Our technicians will monitor the main exit and entry points.

Step 2

The entire structure must be sealed creating a permanent barrier preventing bats to reenter the structure. Fur & Feathers Wildlife Control uses only top of the line materials when sealing your structure. When we say sealing the whole structure we mean everything sealing of the soffits, fascia, drip edge, dormers, ridge vents, cross ventilation louvers, chimneys and any other areas that are vulnerable to a bats entry . Why seal off the entire structure? The bats are under the impression the structure is there home just as well as it is yours, and will try to get back in any other way possible. so if we were to just seal off the front door they will simply enter the back door.

Step 3

Step 3 consists of draping nets over the main entry points which were discovered during the watch for a period of a week to 10 days depending on the size of the colony. The net creates a one way door, allowing the bats to leave but with the net in place the bats cannot reenter.

Step4

One of the most important steps is the clean up which consists of our technicians gaining access to the area in which the bats were living usually attic space, and perform a clean up of the fecal matter and debris left behind by bats called guano. Guano poses very serious health threats to the disease called histoplasmosis.

Step 5

Deodorize and disinfect. Once the bats are removed and all the fecal matter is eliminated the bats leave behind an odor and the area the colony existed may still contain larvae from bat bugs. Once the bats are removed and fully eliminated the bats leave behind an insect called bat bugs which are closely related and appear similar to bedbugs. The bat bugs larvae is more than likely left behind and there have been cases of these bat bugs finding ways into the living areas and feeding on humans or pets. To avoid this completely we disinfect the entire area to ensure no larvae or bat bugs are left behind.

step 6

The last and final step is to remove the net, which was placed up in step 3, all bats have now left the structure and the net is removed and the main entrances are sealed. Job Complete!
